Why I Like Reviews!
A funny thing happened on the way to the bookstore… Just kidding. I truly love reviews, the good, the bad and the ugly. It doesn’t matter. I bet you‘re asking yourself, “What is wrong with you?” I will tell you this; I did get my feelings hurt in the early days when I got a one or two star review. To me, five stars was like getting an A on a project, so therefore a one star was an F. An F, really? I spent months on that book, it has my blood, sweat and tears in it and you gave me an F? Why??? But I get it now, it’s part of life. Not everyone will like you and not everyone will like your work. So what can you do? Learn from it, my friend! Quit focusing on that low rating and look at your average. Read your reviews and see if they are telling you something. What messages can you use to improve your writing?
A five star rating still feels like a Christmas present or that feeling you get when you first pass through the gates at Disneyland, but all reviews have value. Some have way more than others. Still, at the end of the day, remember it is all a numbers game and listen to the averages not the extremes. What do most people want from you? Make an effort to be that writer but no matter what you do… ALWAYS be true to yourself.
Happy writing and may the muses always hold you in their favor!
